NEW YORK, NEW YORK (March 14, 2020) — The Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) launches its groundbreaking virtual album Heroes with its first music video—Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel. It begins streaming this afternoon on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and on the YPC website.
All of the songs to be included in this virtual album are being recorded by almost 600 YPC choristers from their homes and are dedicated to the thousands of New York City heroes who have, since the middle of March, been keeping the rest of us safe by courageously caring for the sick, delivering the mail, driving the buses and subways, picking up the trash, teaching the children, stocking store shelves, policing the streets, putting out fires, and so much more.
Additional music videos in the series will be released on a regular basis in the weeks ahead, performed by children from the many groups of singers in YPC’s musical ensembles. These young artists hail from all five boroughs, many from the same neighborhoods as their heroes.
Each music video, enhanced with personal artworks and familiar landscapes, evokes the emotions of the children at this unique moment in time, from poignancy and sadness to playfulness and delight. The songs—all popular favorites–are as varied as the children who sing them, and they hope that viewers of these videos will sing along as loudly and as beautifully as possible to enable every single one of these brave and fearless heroes to hear the singers’ heartfelt gratitude and admiration.
This Heroes virtual album continues the upward curve of YPC’s groundbreaking and innovative program by showcasing the strength and resilience of the singers and sending a hopeful message from the children.
“You’ll Never Walk Alone” was specially arranged for this virtual album by YPC Artistic Director/Founder Francisco J. Núñez and Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez and sung by 80 members of YPC led by Mr. Núñez.

Young People’s Chorus of New York City is a world-renowned youth chorus founded in 1988 on a mission of diversity, artistic excellence, and education by Artistic Director Francisco J.
