The Young People’s Chorus of New York City performed live this month! Following 16 months of performing virtually due to the pandemic, we were honored and thrilled to help open New York City’s performing arts sector by partnering with talented musician Nick Kendall to present Restart Stages at Lincoln Center and Continuum Present: Young People’s Chorus of New York City “Ready, Set, Sing!” The free, public, pop-up sing-took place Sunday, July 11 and was held at The Green at Lincoln Center as part of Lincoln Center’s Restart Stages initiative.

Hundreds of New Yorkers attended the event, joining Francisco J. Núñez and YPC choristers to sing songs from a mix of musical genres that represented four continents and reflected the rich diversity and sounds of New York City. Participants scanned QR codes made available by YPC to access lyrics to each song. Songs included “Funiculì, Funiculà,” “This Little Light of Mine,” “Hallelujah,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and more.
Ready, Set, Sing! was part of a new project at Lincoln Center called Continuum, curated by artist Nick Kendall of “Time For Three” (TF3), a classically-trained string trio that explores and performs a variety of musical genres.

On July 1, Carnegie Hall re-aired its historic 120th anniversary Gala Concert headlined by James Taylor. The 2011 event included YPC’s stellar performance of “Shower in the People” and other notable participating artists included Sting, Steven Martin and Bette Midler.

And, on Sunday, July 18, we were featured on All Arts TV’s “Contemplations from National Stardust,” a six-episode retrospective about the Brooklyn-based nonprofit performing arts organization and music venue. The episode, titled “Today’s Lens,” included YPC performance footage as well as a discussion with National Stardust artist-in-residence and composer Ellen Reid regarding the powerful and timely lyrics YPC youth created for “So Much of My Soul.” The episode is available for streaming via All Arts TV.
