Dear Friend of YPC,

Last December we culminated our triumphant 30th anniversary year with the promise of even greater days ahead.  Now, just 12 months later and thanks to the enthusiasm and passion of our incredible choristers, YPC’s accomplishments and achievements continue to grow.

As we begin the new decade, YPC is looking forward to a momentous schedule of events and performances, including an extraordinary gala, and it all begins next month with YPC taking part in a history-making international commemoration.

In the meantime, please accept best wishes from all of us—our choristers and the entire staff—for a very happy holiday with you and yours and a very happy new year.

Countdown to 2020: Highlights from 2019

January

• World premiere performances of Julia Wolfe’s unanimously acclaimed Fire in My Mouth with The New York Philharmonic and The Crossing conducted by Jaap van Zweden

March

• Record-breaking gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center
• YPC’s Young Men take Savannah Invitational Choir Festival by storm, in their Georgia debut
• YPC’s Chorale celebrates the start of spring with an upstate New York weekend tour, selling out concerts in Schenectady and Utica

April

• In its very first international tour, YPC’s Intermezzo division is invited to participate in the Junior Treble Festival in Toronto by the Toronto Children’s Chorus, the only American chorus ever to take part

May

• For its 16th annual School Choruses event, which features performances by the hundreds of children in 18 New York City schools in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Bronx, YPC holds two back-to-back concerts at the 92^nd Street so that every chorus is spotlighted
• For its 2019 Vocal Resolutions concert, YPC commissions a new piece of music from 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid and invites the acclaimed Shallaway Children’s Choir from Newfoundland to join in the premiere of Ms. Reid’s new work

June

• With attendance at YPC concerts reaching overflowing, YPC holds its 2019 Spring Concert in its debut at the historic 3300-seat United Palace in Washington Heights

July

• YPC debuts at the Jewish Museum in a concert of music by Leonard Cohen presented by Bang on a Can, to coincide with a Leonard Cohen exhibition
• YPC returns to Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem for a pre-curtain concert to The Classical Theatre of Harlem’s Uptown Shakespeare in the Park theatrical presentation of “The Bacchae”
• YPC National debut tour, with YPC National performances and workshops in both the Dominican Republic and a week-long residency at Lee University in Tennessee. Joining YPC choristers were singers from Dominican Republic, New Jersey, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Georgia, who together, made their debut as the YPC National ensemble, Concinamus
• Concinamus debuts the first YPC National commissions from Jim Papoulis and Bruce Adolphe

September

• As the women-led organization National Sawdust begins its fifth season, YPC is featured in a concert that spotlights seven female composers

October

• Sell-out performance at David W. Lynch Theater of the second YPC Big Sing
• A record number of YPC female choristers, alumnae, and WIT Pros take part in the 2019 WIT (Women Inspiring Tomorrow) mentoring program at Second Floor NYC

November

• The Decca Gold live recording of Julia Wolfe’s Fire in My Mouth is nominated for two Grammy Awards
• 2019 Thanksgiving Day Parade with Idina Menzel, nationally telecast to over 4 million TV viewers

December

• Francisco Núñez receives The ASCAP Foundation’s Life in Music Award
• YPC gives its first Winter Wonder concert at David Geffen Hall
• Holiday TV appearances include a national telecast of CBS Sunday Morning (5 million viewers) and millions more on NBC-TV’s Today Show with Hoda and Jenna, and locally telecast NY1 morning show (6,000 viewers)
